Mills sweep away Bletchley

Game day 4 saw Mills make the small trip to the picturesque Bletchley on a “shorts and tee-shirt” kind of day, or in Garrett’s case a double jumper one…
Bletchley won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a seamer friendly pitch.
Openers, Smith and Shepard got off to a good start with 23 off the first 3 overs. Cockroft still emotionally scarred from Wirth the previous week, the bowler saw mirages of the left handed opener when running into bowl, only to deliver the ball to a right handed batsman.
It was Dre Madden who broke the partnership, his sharp pace strangled Smith down the legside with Cannons doing well to take the catch. The Second partnership built well until the introduction of skipper Burney who removed Turner first ball of his spell. The ever-chilly Garrett was introduced at the other end, bowling tight lines and breaking through in his second over, Hussain finding Hare at mid wicket for 0, a good bit of cricket from the Mills side.
Garrett & Burney combined well, with the next 6 overs going for 9 runs although Bletchley were re-building nicely.
The ever dangerous drinks came and went and the batsmen saw off the introduction of Haselgrove.
With the Bletchley score threatening three figures, the cracks began to show in the Mills side with some sloppy fielding creeping in.
It was Kelly who would put an end to it with a routine caught and bowled to remove Hussain in his first over, Kelly, so confident that he would take the catch celebrated before the ball made contact with his hand. The score now had been taken to 104-4, an ominous position with Shepherd looking in good touch and past his 50.
Nazir came out swinging, both verbally as well as with the bat, which obviously took about 2 seconds to make an impact on the Mills skipper who was starting to lose his head.
With rumours of a batting order that had Claridge (A) down at 8 and with the in-form batsman keen on testing his form in division 4 it was no surprise that he would let a catch drop to his feet.
Claridge (P) then pointed out an order which saw Dre Madden ahead of the Claridge’s must be fake news.
Burney, visibly getting acquainted with his Targaryen heritage was starting to feel the heat and pressure of the situation. Haselgrove, who doesn’t like to see any kind of aggression on the cricket field would try to end the skippers day by firing a ball into the Mills skipper from 10 yards away.
Haselgrove’s mission didn’t succeed, much to the disappointment of all the Mills men.
Fortunately for Mills and Kings Landing Burney would remove Nazir shortly after the Batsman’s request for a helmet, Nazir seemed puzzled by the contraption that was on Shepherd’s head for the duration of the innings and after some help he lived his life long dream of wearing a lid himself too.
He departed for 7, again caught well by Cannons.
In his next over Burney would remove Shepherd for 72, with the stroke maker calling for a DRS to no avail having forgotten the Bletchley men used their referral on the first dismissal of the day. The dangerous Brown lasted three balls, bowled for 0, leaving the score on 125-7.
Garrett replaced Burney and together with Kelly wrapped up the innings, Kelly taking one and Garrett bowling Zhan for 0 and trapping Turner GBW, Bletchley bowled out for 147.

Haselgrove & Burney would open for the Mills, Haselgrove took one legitimate delivery as a sighter then began to attack, hitting a glorious 6 over long on. Burney also joined in with the attack, with the pair putting on the first 50 in the 6th over.
Burney never really seemed to find full rhythm though and chipped one to mid off for a brisk 27 off the bowling of Khan. Hare joined Haselgrove, playing from the first page of the textbook Hare can consider himself very unlucky, the batsman could not have foreseen being given out LBW for 3 playing a sweep shot, normally a very low risk high reward shot in division 4.
Garrett came and went, receiving a ball that did everything from Hussain, clean bowled for 4, Garrett though did look happy to be able to take off his 10 batting layers.
Haselgrove quickly followed, just like Hare the batsman can consider himself unlucky, trying to work singles, Haselgrove got a bit too much of one and it carried to long on, caught for 43. Mills now on 87-4.
Rumours were true Dre Madden did in fact find himself at 6, the well-built allrounder re-built with Dove, the pair carefully waiting for the bad ball and putting them away well.
Dove though found himself trapped LBW for 5 off the bowling of Hussain.
Bletchley heads would drop when they saw Claridge walking out to bat at 7, Claridge & Dre Madden quickly put on 33 together to knock off the remaining runs, Madden left unbeaten on 24* a terrific and match winning performance, well supported by Claridge (12*) at the end.
